2 Minute Power Drill

Would you like to possess more personal power?  Give the 2 Minute Power Drill a try!

Stand in a "Wonder Woman" or "Superman" pose.  That's right, stand like a hero for 2 minutes.  Take up as much space as possible with your feet wide, hands on your hips, chin up, and eye closed and envision and feel "as if"

As If...

  • You are a champion
  • You are fearless
  • You are tough and fierce
  • You are going to achieve your goal

Take notice to how your body feels right now.  You may be standing a little taller, stronger, and pumped to take on the day!

Our bodies tell our stories!!!  Our body language expresses our emotions and passions.

Did you know that we are able to project and reflect power with our posture?  Our posture projects how we want to “feel” or appear to feel.  Ex: if we want to “feel” tall and we’re short…we stand taller.

Power is a buffer against negative emotions.  Feeling powerful tends to thicken our skin against judgement, rejection, stress, and mistakes.  We are more apt to take calculated risks and step out of our comfort zone when we feel powerful.

Walt Whitman was quoted by saying, “We convince by our presence.”

That said, sometimes we have to convince ourselves of our greatness by envisioning this power inside of us.  When we learn to connect with our personal power we gain courage to live in the moment, and to reach for our goals and dreams, even in the face of failure.

“Power makes us approach.  Powerlessness makes us avoid.”

When we feel powerless, we cannot be present.  Presence is power.  We attain that power by power posing.  We prime and ready ourselves to take action by expanding our body language in a positive, powerful posture.

You can change your mindset simply by changing your posture.  You can also change your posture by changing your mindset.  Really!

***Expansive body language increases our feelings of physical strength and skill; contractive body language decreases them.  Expanding your body physiologically prepares you to be present; it overrides your instinct to fight or flee, allowing you to be grounded, open, and engaged in the moment.

We tend to pose in a powerless way more than we think, and we need to change that now!

The way you carry yourself is a source of personal power.  It’s the kind of power that is key to presence.  It’s the key that allows you to unlock and unleash YOU!  Presence allows your true potential to come to fruition- it taps into your talents, skills, abilities…it helps give you the courage and mental fortitude to share with the world who you are!

Possessing Personal Power doesn’t MAKE you smarter or better or magically achieve a task.
·       Personal Power helps you step-up to challenges with more courage and resiliency.

·       It doesn’t change who you are.  It allows you to be who you are.
Take control of your body language, and in turn take control of your mind.

Most of us would benefit from a power boost before:
  • ·       job interview/ career change
  • ·       presentation or test
  • ·       sports competition/practice
  • ·       New social situations/ meeting new people

·
My hope for you is to  gain a new courage to venture outside of your comfort zone, and to take a step towards the goal and vision you have for yourself in a bold way!  For many, the thought of beginning a strength training regimen can be overwhelming and intimidating.  My belief is that if you shape your perspective in a positive fashion the anxiety of becoming strong (physically and mentally) won’t be very daunting.
